The Hypomeeting Götzis / Vorarlberg has already written sports history several times and was subsequently awarded the highest honor, the "
World Athletics Heritage Plaque" in 2019. On May 10, 2019 in Yokohama (JPN), the World Athletics President Lord Sebastian Coe announced the award of the "World Athletics Heritage Plaque" to the Hypomeeting Götzis / Vorarlberg.
The Hypomeeting receives this award in the category "Event" and ranks with events such as the Boston Marathon, Weltklasse Zürich, ISTAF Berlin or the Memorial Van Damme among the most distinguished and exclusive athletics events in the world.
The "World Athletics Heritage" was launched in 2018. Members from the six continental federations of World Athletics sit on the expert committee, which decides on the awarding of this extraordinary distinction in a total of five categories.
World Athletics Heritage preserves the heritage of athletics. Outstanding sports legends, places, events, landmarks and cultures from 3,000 years of athletics are highlighted and honored. Above all, it is intended to motivate and inspire young people.
Each event awarded the World Athletics Heritage Plaque represents the incredible history of athletics, based on countless wonderful memories and moments, and a high level of quality that few other sports can match in intensity.
