Teamwork

with heart, soul and passion

100% commitment

The „Verein zur Förderung der Leichtathletik“ („Association for the Promotion of Athletics“), founded in 1999 by Konrad Lerch and Werner Ströhle, is the organisation behind the Hypomeeting Götzis. Since the beginning of the meeting in 1975, exclusively volunteers have been working every year to put on a high quality and professional competition. The goal is to raise as much money as possible through the support of sponsors as well as the entrance fees of the meeting weekend to support the young track and field stars of tomorrow in Vorarlberg.

Once upon a time…

...an ambitious team of four track and field friends who laid the foundation for the Hypomeeting Götzis.

A meeting makes history

In 1973 the club LG Montfort organized the Austrian championships in the decathlon and heptathlon. The competition, which took place in July 1973, brought - besides the great Austrian record of Sepp Zeilbauer with exactly 8000 points - a remarkable spectator response.

The preliminary round of the multi-event European Cup held in Innsbruck one month later (Sepp Zeilbauer again impressed with a new record) gave Armin Hug, Konrad Lerch, Elmar Oberhauser and Werner Ströhle the idea of holding a corresponding international event at the Möslestadium instead of the traditional combined event meeting in Schielleiten, which was no longer held.

The many international contacts of Austrian decathlon and heptathlon coach Konrad Lerch were to form the basis for attractive starting fields.

In 1975 the time had come. Despite the most adverse weather conditions, Burglinde Pollak/GDR set an annual world best in the pentathlon. The participating athletes and team leaders showed great enthusiasm about the organization and the atmosphere at the new combined event meeting in Götzis.

We have summarized a review of emotions and winners here.
