Together with the Green Events Austria network, we select the 30 most sustainable festivals, cultural and sporting events and sports clubs in Austria. As one of the most sustainable green events in the “Sustainable Winning 2023/24” competition, the Hypomeeting Götzis/Vorarlberg is also one of the nominated sporting events and is therefore ranked in the top 8 of 41 submissions
Sports events category.
The aim of this competition was to give events and clubs a stage that implement sustainable measures in event and club life in a wide variety of areas. Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler particularly emphasized that green events make an important contribution to environmental protection,
by the organizers “focusing on climate-friendly travel, ensuring more regional, organic and fairly produced food and drinks” and thus supporting the local economy. Another important one
An aspect that has also been implemented for the second year at the Hypomeeting Götzis 2024 is active waste avoidance - wherever possible. This protects resources and the climate.
The “Win sustainably!” competition from the “Green Events Austria” network annually honors sustainable sports and cultural events, festivals and events and, since 2017, sports clubs. Around 1,110 events and clubs from all over Austria took part in all previous competitions.
In 2024, the Hypomeeting Götzis/Vorarlberg was awarded the Austrian environmental label “Green Event” for the second time in a row and has now also been nominated in the “Win sustainably!” competition. This means that the Hypomeeting has been playing a pioneering role for other major athletics and sporting events since 2023. This pioneering role extends far beyond Austria's borders, as shown by the mention of World Athletics as a best practice example at last year's World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
